Hi, I'm Sophie!

My name is Sophie Humphries and I am the founder and lead therapist of Liverpool Speech Therapy. I qualified from Birmingham City University in 2009 and since that time have worked across many settings. I have held positions in various NHS Trusts which involved working within mainstream schools, special schools, clinics, client's homes, pupil referral units and children's centres. I was also employed as the Lead Therapist for a number of years within a special school for Autistic pupils after which I moved on to a management position in a private organisation.

I started Liverpool Speech Therapy in 2017 with a drive to provide effective, dynamic and creative therapy, delivering therapy to children when they need it, where they need it and for how long they need it.

"I am passionate about changing children's lives and helping them to build communication skills to last a lifetime".

I have extensive experience and specialise in working with children who have social communication differences, Autism, Down's Syndrome, learning difficulties and other neurodevelopmental conditions. I also work with a large number of children who present with specific speech and language disorders and really enjoy this aspect of my role.

I have a wide range of post-grad training in the following:

  • PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System)

  • Intensive Interaction

  • Signalong

  • Attention Autism

  • The Curiosity Programme

  • SCERTS (Social Communication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional Support)

  • Hanen

  • Colourful Semantics

  • ADOS (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule).

  • Lidcombe Programme for Early Stuttering

When I'm not busy running Liverpool Speech Therapy, I'm usually running around after my 2 young boys. However if I do get a rare moment to myself, I enjoy walking, practicing yoga and diving into a good book!

Louise Gilmartin

Team Lead
Senior Speech and Language Therapist

My name is Louise Gilmartin (she/her). I qualified from Birmingham City University in 2008, and have since worked in NHS community clinics, local authority schools/nurseries, Sure Start children’s centres, and client homes. I was also Lead Therapist in a non-maintained residential special school, where I managed the in-house Speech and Language Therapy Service.

I’m passionate about developing the speech, language, and communication potential of children from EYFS through to FE settings! I’m a trauma informed practitioner, specialising in Autism and SEMH. I’m committed to supporting children to access learning opportunities in meaningful ways – whether that’s through a child-led approach, mainstream education, or an alternative curriculum! I strive to nurture functional communication skills and independence; foster self-advocacy, and work through a neurodiversity affirming approach.

I believe in daily communication opportunities for every individual to thrive; using fun, engaging, and individualised therapy! I seek joint working with our NHS colleagues, parents/carers, and other professionals involved in their lives. Through creativity and collaboration, we can help children to achieve great things!

I’m always inspired by possibilities which enable others to grow and achieve! I’ve completed a variety of post-graduate training courses, but also enjoy delivering training to other professionals so that they too can support our children. As Team Lead, I’m passionate about supporting Sophie and the team to continue delivering a high quality, dynamic, and evidence-based service, alongside supporting the CPD and wellbeing of my colleagues.

In my spare time – I love the outdoors and enjoy going on walks, doing Pilates, and I help run an animal rescue charity.

Hi, I'm Claire!

Claire Haymes

Speech and Language Therapist

My name is Claire Haymes and I am a Speech and Language Therapist at Liverpool Speech Therapy.

While I qualified from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2012, I took a break from my career to raise my three wonderful children. I pursued my career again in 2023 and am thrilled to be part of the Liverpool Speech Therapy team, where I'm eager to continue learning and growing.

My journey in the field began as a nursery nurse, and over the years, I've gained diverse experience working in roles such as Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Officer, and Speech Therapy Assistant across various educational settings. My deep-rooted passion lies in connecting with children and families to support their communication needs, particularly those who are neurodiverse. As a Neurodivergent SLT, I take pride in implementing a neurodivergent affirming approach, celebrating each child's unique strengths and interests.

Beyond my professional life, I cherish my role as a busy Mum, where my life largely revolves around my children. However, I also make time for activities like ballroom/Latin dancing, going to the gym, enjoying meals out, and going on family outings."
