Hi, I'm Sophie!

My name is Sophie Humphries (she/her) and I am the founder and Practice Manager of Liverpool Speech Therapy (LST), which I established in 2017 to offer effective, dynamic, and creative therapy to children in our local community. I am proud to lead a team of dedicated therapists who deliver high-quality, evidence-based therapy, because we believe in the power of effective therapy.

I graduated from Birmingham City University in 2009 and have since worked in various NHS Trusts, which involved working within mainstream schools, special schools, clinics, client's homes, pupil referral units and children's centres. I was also employed as the Lead Therapist for a number of years within a special school for Autistic pupils after which I moved on to a management position in a private organisation.

"I am passionate about transforming children's lives and helping them to build communication skills to last a lifetime".

My extensive experience includes working with children who have social communication differences, Autism, Down's Syndrome, learning difficulties and other neurodevelopmental conditions. I also work with a large number of children who present with specific speech and language disorders and really enjoy this aspect of my role.

I have completed a wide range of post-graduate training courses to stay updated with current evidence-based practices. We also regularly host training days for our team, as well as for other professionals and parents/carers. We really enjoy our joint working with others and believe that effective partnerships are crucial for achieving the best outcomes for the incredible children we support.

When I'm not busy running Liverpool Speech Therapy, I'm usually running around after my 2 young boys. However if I do get a rare moment to myself, I enjoy walking, practicing yoga and diving into a good book!

I have lots of experience of working with children and my areas of interest include Autism. ADHD and DLD. I am committed to continually updating my knowledge through post-graduate training, ensuring that I provide effective, evidence-based therapy to the amazing children we support.

I am passionate about helping children reach their full communication potential and supporting their families and educational staff in practical and engaging ways.

Outside of work, I like to go the beach (especially if it's a bit windy and rainy!) and finding new crafts to make.

Hi, I'm Louise!

Louise Gilmartin

Team Lead
Senior Speech and Language Therapist

BSc Hons, MRCSLT, HCPCreg

My name is Louise Gilmartin (she/her). I qualified from Birmingham City University in 2008, and have since worked in NHS community clinics, local authority schools/nurseries, Sure Start children’s centres, and client homes. I was also Lead Therapist in a non-maintained residential special school, where I managed the in-house Speech and Language Therapy Service.

I’m passionate about developing the speech, language, and communication potential of children from EYFS through to FE settings! I’m a trauma informed practitioner, specialising in Autism and SEMH. I’m committed to supporting children to access learning opportunities in meaningful ways – whether that’s through a child-led approach, mainstream education, or an alternative curriculum! I strive to nurture functional communication skills and independence; foster self-advocacy, and work through a neurodiversity affirming approach.

I believe in daily communication opportunities for every individual to thrive; using fun, engaging, and individualised therapy! I seek joint working with our NHS colleagues, parents/carers, and other professionals involved in their lives. Through creativity and collaboration, we can help children to achieve great things!

I’m always inspired by possibilities which enable others to grow and achieve! I’ve completed a variety of post-graduate training courses, but also enjoy delivering training to other professionals so that they too can support our children. As Team Lead, I’m passionate about supporting Sophie and the team to continue delivering a high quality, dynamic, and evidence-based service, alongside supporting the CPD and wellbeing of my colleagues.

In my spare time – I love the outdoors and enjoy going on walks, doing Pilates, and I help run an animal rescue charity.

Hi, I'm Ashley!

Ashley Blood

Speech and Language Therapist
BSc Hons, MRCSLT, HCPCreg

My name is Ashley Blood (he/him) and I am a Speech and Language Therapist at Liverpool Speech Therapy. I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2024. It was through my experience working as both a teacher and teaching assistant in both mainstream and SEN schools, that I discovered my passion for helping people communicate.

My time in various educational settings highlighted the importance of communication and reinforced my belief that everyone deserves a voice, in whatever form suits them best. I am committed to using my background in education to inspire children to develop their communication skills and engage freely with the world around them. Having been a teacher myself, I understand the pressures teachers face, and I enjoy working collaboratively with teaching staff to empower them in supporting children's communication development.

I believe that teamwork and collaboration are key to success, which is why I always work closely with parents, carers, school staff, and NHS colleagues to build a strong support network for these children.

I'm always eager to innovate my practice and pursue opportunities for professional development. I have a particular interest in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and look forward to continue expanding my expertise in this area.

In my spare time, I enjoy playing hockey for my local team and walking my dog—rain or shine!
